Luke produced another solid performance in Les Gets in France for the final leg of the European World Cup races. After a challenging start where he got pushed back to around 33rd, Luke started to pick his way forward again and found himself in a group jockeying for 16th position, just 30 seconds off the top 10. Fatigue from a long and incredibly tough season took its toll and Luke struggled on the final lap. He managed to pull off an impressive finish in 21st position despite the heavy legs, ending his European season with a bang.
Overall, this has been a consistent stint of international racing for Luke, with huge improvements over last year, and even over results from earlier this year. Luke is currently ranked 31st, despite having missed the first race of the season in the Czech Republic. He is only 58 points outside the Top 20 after collecting 80 points at Les Gets. Phil Buys is currently ranked as the second placed South African athlete behind Elite rider Alan Hatherly, with Luke sitting in third. It’s safe to say he is slowly but surely eating into Buys’ 141-point lead!
