The Western Province Road League added a new road race in Kalbaskraal this year, and it proved to be an excellent addition to the calendar for Luke.
Category 1 and 2 racers took on a 64.5km route with 550m of climbing twice to battle it out on the roads of Kalbaskraal in the Swartland region of Western Province. A small group broke away early, which was eventually whittled down to only four riders for the last lap. Cyclists Alan Hatherley, Marco Joubert, Jaco Venter and Luke Moir were left to fight for pole position, and after 128km of solid racing at an average speed of 42km/h, it came down to a sprint. Jaco chose to open it up from a long way out, and this worked perfectly for Luke, who used the break to catapult himself ahead and take the win.
