Ranking 27th with the points collected from African Champs, Luke qualified for the Cross-Country Short Track (XCC) race on Thursday 8 June. The track was very fast and tight, running just under two minutes a lap. This fast pace led to a number of crashes and pileups, but Luke managed to stay safe and finish an excellent 30th, collecting another 31 UCI points.
In Sunday 11 June’s Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) race Luke got a decent start, but the length of the climbs unfortunately took their toll, and he was forced to attack on the downhills. This left him with no time for recovery and he slipped back to finish 50th on the field. This was still a notable improvement over last year when he finished 98th.
