A podium finish on home soil!

Luke finished the year off in style, and on home soil to boot. Although not part of the XCO (Cross-Country Olympics) calendar, his final race of 2023 was the gruelling Ride Joburg 94.7 road race in Johannesburg, Gauteng. As the province entered a heatwave, thousands of cyclists gathered at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, south-west of Joburg, to take part in this iconic and hotly contested 97 km race. Luke put in a solid performance, managing to take part in the move that would eventually see three riders battling it out on the finish line. Just as the three men began their sprint, his fellow competitor Kent Main unfortunately crashed right in front of Luke, sliding across the road on the last corner and forcing Luke to take evasive action. This gave Marc Pritzen the gap he needed to sprint to the line for victory and for Luke to come in an excellent second place, just one second behind. All in all, it was a great way to end what has been a successful season. Congratulations Luke!
