James Kalenga is a Developer at CloudSmiths, a Dynamic Technologies group company. He joined CloudSmiths as a graduate with a strong dose of curiosity and a passion for technology but with limited exposure to cloud platforms – he didn’t even know what Google Cloud was.
Through the CloudSmiths graduate programme, complemented by structured mentorship and hands-on project exposure, James gradually built his technical confidence and professional maturity, earning his role as developer.
James says, “I’ve gone from learning the basics to contributing meaningfully to real-world client projects. Today, I deliver production-ready solutions, and I’m proud of how much I’ve grown since joining. I enjoy learning and challenging myself, and the support from my team and the opportunity to prove myself, kept me focused and motivated to improve every day.”
Crediting his mentors and colleagues at CloudSmiths, James says that the recognition for a job well is a huge motivator, and the continuous guidance and support helps him to keep pushing himself, developing his skills, and growing his contribution to the company.

James is also a big fan of the hybrid work model that allows him to work remotely or from the office. It’s a flexibility that lets him be productive and flexible while achieving a work-life balance that is vital to his wellbeing.
Joining CloudSmiths has been a life-changing journey for James. “The company gave me the opportunity and support to certify in Google technologies. Today, I hold the Google Cloud Digital Leader, Associate Cloud Engineer and Google Workspace certifications, and I am now working towards my Google Developer certification. This type of career growth and technical skill development would not have been possible without the support provided by CloudSmiths. There was a time when I doubted whether I would ever get a real software engineering job. CloudSmiths saw potential in me and gave me a chance. James adds that he has also grown in confidence, discipline, and resilience. “I attribute this to continuous learning opportunities, mentorship, being trusted with responsibility and a culture that prioritises individual development through certifications, seminars and knowledge-sharing sessions.”
There’s also no end in sight to this journey. “My long-term goal is to become a strong full-stack developer with deep cloud expertise. I want to build scalable, impactful systems that solve real-world problems. This year, I also started my master’s degree after being out of university for some time, and completing it is one of my goals for 2026. I want to challenge myself academically and push my limits.”
